$20,000 Awarded to Elizabeth High School Students by Rotary Club of Elizabeth
???? Twelve graduating seniors from Elizabeth High School will share in $20,000 in scholarships from the Rotary Club of Elizabeth's Albert & Louise Davis Scholarship Fund. The awards were announced at a special scholarship ceremony held recently at the Wyndham Hotel, Elizabeth, and attended by the students, their family members and the members of the Rotary Club.

The recipients are: Sandra Arboleda, who received $500 toward her studies in Early Childhood Education at Union County College; Dennis Caceres, $1,000 toward his education at Rutgers University where he will study Computer Engineering; Lisette Devia, $1,000 toward her studies in Biology and Dentistry at Rutgers University; Sanly Fernandez, $1,500 toward her education as a Physician Assistant at Union County College; Gian Carlo Francisco, $2,000 toward his major in Electrical Engineering at NJIT; Pablo Galves, $1,000 toward his education at Union County College where he will major in Child Psychiatry; Althea Headley, $3,000 toward her education in International Relations at Widner College; Sara Khan, $2,000 toward her education at Rutgers University where she will major in Biomedical Engineering; Jessica Moreira, $2,000 toward her studies in International Business at Rutgers University; Bruno Periera, $2,000 toward his education at Rutgers University where he will have a double-major in Marine Biology and Zoology; Julie Tang, $1,000 toward her studies in Civil Engineering at Rutgers University; and Adam Wieczorkowski, $3,000 toward his studies in Biology at Yale University. They join 128 students who have received a total of $270,000 in scholarship awards since the inception of the Davis Fund in 1986.
???? "These young people are among the top students of Elizabeth High School, and they represent a range of backgrounds and career interests. It is a pleasure to assist them with these scholarship awards," explained William Mealia, Vice President of the Fund and a past President of the Elizabeth Rotary.
???? Elizabeth Schools Superintendent Thomas Dunn, Jr., saluted the Rotary's generosity. "Over the years the Rotary has awarded in excess of a quarter million dollars, which has made a very significant difference for Elizabeth High School students," he said, noting that Rotary members help in other ways, including the mentoring of younger students, and by recognizing an Elizabeth Teacher of the Year each May. "I thank the Rotary for providing both role models and resources for our young people," he added.
