Where Angles Play Park Dedication
May 16, 2015

May 16th, 2015… a great day to be an Elizabeth Rotarian!

We were on hand to celebrate the ribbon cutting of the “Where Angels Play” playground at Veterans Park on the Elizabeth waterfront.

The Where Angels Play Foundation rebuilds parks destroyed by Superstorm Sandy and dedicates them to the youngsters who lost their lives in the Newtown Connecticut tragedy.

Our Club was recognized for our generous donation of $10,0000 to help finance this beautiful new facility, built entirely by volunteers from the Elizabeth Fire Department, as well as Firefighters from the Northeast.

Special thanks to Bob Tombs, Bill Mealia and Jim Duffy, who were instrumental in getting our Club involved with this amazing Organization.

A fun meeting yesterday as we welcomed Deacon Joe Caporaso and guests from the Our Lady of Guadalupe Academy.

Rotarian Rich Esperon welcomed Deacon Joe and Advisory Board members Oneida Duran, Carol Cascio and Frank Malta.

Bill Mealia admires the handiwork of Jim Duffy who created a display of our Club activities for last weeks District Conference in Atlantic City. Nicely done Jim!

Jim Duffy and Jonathan Burt presented a check to Cheramy Brown of Family & Children’s Services. Our donation will be put towards programs which help at risk youth in the Community.

Our program was a Thank You to Deacon Joe Caporaso who is retiring as the Principal of Our Lady of Guadalupe Academy.

Deacon Joe has been a great friend and partner with the Elizabeth Rotary Club, helping to establish a very successful EarlyClub at the school.

Ken Richuso presented a slide show which highlighted the many projects which were shared by the school and our Club, including Walks for Breast Cancer Research, Wheelchairs for Disabled Veterans, Thanksgiving and Christmas food and toy collections, hot chocolate sales for Sandy Relief, and of course annual appearances by the School Choir for our Holiday Party.
